Meet David Park, one of our Production Engineers at our GWS-Massachusetts facility. Since 2010, David has been working at the Springfield, MA location programming our CNC machines, troubleshooting problems and even training our operators.

From Printer To Machining Pro

Although David wasn’t always a Production Engineer or working with state-of-the-art CNC grinding centers, you would never know it. Prior to finding his way to becoming an expert with all things grinding, David was in the commercial printing industry for 25 years! So naturally he was used to large machines and multiple manufacturing processes, which is why he gravitated towards the process of producing a cutting tool when he started at GWS. Over the years, he has developed into one of our best senior Production Engineers, helping to turn designs into reality and mentoring future cutting tool makers.

David loves learning about the many custom and standard tools that GWS produces, and tries to always find out how they are all related to each other. This thirst for knowledge hasn’t gone unnoticed, as David has been tapped as part of a cross-training team to collaborate with production engineers in other facilities to share best practices and techniques. He recently visited the team in GWS-Florida to learn machining techniques from his counterparts in that facility and has brought that knowledge back to GWS-MA to start producing the same kinds of tools.

When asked what he liked the most about working at the GWS-MA facility, he was quick to answer that it was helping the people he works with and always being open to sharing techniques and learning something new. David loves that he works at such a unique manufacturer, remarking that “GWS is a good place to learn machining skills. When you start out, you aren’t on your own. You are trained as you go, and always encouraged to share your knowledge and work together as a team to get the job done.”

Family, Fun, and Facts

When David isn’t troubleshooting problems, tweaking CNC machine coding or training others at GWS-MA, his family is what is most important to him. He loves spending time with his wife and two grown children, and continues to practice his cooking skills with them all the time. David has also been known to serenade his family with his guitar, something he continues to practice on and improve his musical talent.

When David and his family have time, their favorite travel spot is Cape Cod. This peninsula on the coast of Massachusetts is known for lighthouses, famous seafood and great beaches, so it’s no surprise that David and his family love to spend their time there. Another pastime for David is always being caught up on current events. As a self described news junkie, he is always reading and trying to stay informed on a vast amount of topics and subjects. Just make sure not to challenge him in a game of trivia, he knows his facts!
