Employee Spotlight: Gina Schmidt
Shipping Clerk // GWS-WI (Menomonee Falls)
Meet Gina Schmidt, Shipping Clerk at GWS-WI (Menomonee Falls). Gina Schmidt joined GWS in 2022 and has been an essential part of our team ever since. As our Shipping Clerk, she plays a key role in ensuring our tools get where they need to go both accurately and efficiently.
Before joining GWS, Gina spent an impressive 35 years in the food service industry, including 26 years at a single restaurant. When that establishment closed in 2020, she embraced a new direction, taking on a pick, pack, and ship role at a tooling company. That experience sparked her interest in manufacturing, and when she saw an opportunity at GWS Tool Group, she decided to make the leap, and we’re so glad she did!
Gina quickly proved to be a perfect fit. Today, she leads our shipping department, handling everything from receiving incoming packages to preparing outgoing tools. Her responsibilities include tubing, labeling, packing, and shipping, but her attention to detail is what truly sets her apart. With many customers operating across multiple locations, Gina takes extra care to ensure each tool is sent to the correct destination. She thoroughly inspects every item to ensure it meets GWS standards before it leaves the facility, striving for 100% order accuracy every time.
Though new to the manufacturing and cutting tool industry, Gina has embraced the challenge. She takes pride in being able to identify tools by sight and enjoys learning the nuances of each customer’s preferences. Her background in food service helps her remember those small but important details that enhance the customer experience.
For Gina, the best part of her job is the people. She values the camaraderie and teamwork at the Menomonee Falls facility, especially within the shipping department. She works closely with her colleagues Mary, Sue, and Rosa, and together they tackle big projects with ease and efficiency. But it’s not just her immediate team, Gina says the entire facility feels like a close-knit community. The friendly, hardworking culture makes every day enjoyable, and she’s built lasting friendships that make her excited to come to work.
LIFE OUTSIDE GWS
Outside of work, Gina leads an adventurous and family-focused life. She and her husband, Kirk, have a daughter, Sage, who is currently a college freshman studying finance. The family loves to travel and makes it a point to vacation together regularly. A yearly trip to the Wisconsin Dells (an are known for it’s unique nature and plenty of theme and water parks) is a tradition, and this year they’re planning to visit several water parks.
Gina also has a passion for international travel. On her honeymoon, she visited Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and even yodeled on stage in Switzerland! She hopes to return to Europe someday to explore even more.
Gina is especially proud of her daughter, Sage, who is not only academically driven but also artistically talented. Sage won a Gold Key Scholarship for a photograph she took, which is now displayed in the Milwaukee Art Museum.
When she’s not working, traveling, or spending time with family, Gina enjoys relaxing with a good movie. Comedy is her favorite genre, her all-time favorite film is Date Night, but she also enjoys action and drama. A true movie buff, Gina owns over 3,000 DVDs and is always happy to share her collection.
