Drill Regrinding: Protect the Part, Not Just the Tool
A drill does its work at the most expensive moment in a part’s life. An aerospace or automotive component may carry hours of machining and weeks of lead time before a drill touches it. One failed tool can scrap all of it. Drill regrinding keeps that risk under control while carbide prices climb.
The Real Cost of a Dull Drill
With tungsten prices at record levels, the temptation is to push worn drills further and stretch the tooling budget. However, a dull drill wanders, work hardens the bore, and loads up until it breaks. The scrap cost of a nearly finished component dwarfs the price of the tool that ruined it. A controlled regrind program removes the gamble by returning sharp, verified tools to the floor on a schedule.
